On the trail of learning more about our Carbon Footprint, we should really learn more about Carbon Offsetting.
Carbon Offsetting is an initiative to help balance out the impact of carbon emissions. But it doesn’t necessarily happen directly at the point where the ‘carbon offset’ is paid – the reduction project generally takes place in an entirely different place or country. For example, the carbon emission might take place in Perth, Australia, in the form of a truck delivering goods to your home, but you pay a ‘carbon offset’ which goes to a company that buys a section of the Daintree to save it from developers. Thus preserving the rainforest (which breaks down carbon dioxide) and saving the trees from possibly being used as fuel (which releases more carbon into the atmosphere).
One such organization that is doing their best to save Rainforests is Rainforest Rescue. You’ll find a range of projects and gifts at their website that are aimed at supporting the work to save the world’s valuable rainforest habitats.
